Openki – Behind the Website
Did you know that behind the website openki.net lies the eponymous software for communal self-organization? Openki helps people find each other to share knowledge and realize projects together.
Besides its use on openki.net, the Openki software is also deployed in other contexts, such as at Zürich lernt – a learning festival held in September – at Håck ma’s! as a Barcamp, or at Kultura+ as an event calendar with its own design.
Openki is Open Source and can be used, self-hosted, and adapted by anyone for their own initiatives (Docs for techies here).
We welcome new initiatives, ideas, and collaborations – feel free to contact us if you’d like to use Openki. Support email: support [ät] openki.net.
Becoming Even More Versatile Soon
Openki is evolving: In addition to its application for self-organized courses focused on sharing knowledge, Openki will soon also be usable for collaboratively organized projects.
What’s it about? Groups on Openki have roles that make members’ responsibilities visible. For learning groups, there were previously roles such as “Mentors” or “Hosts.” All group members could propose themselves for these roles.
In the future, it will be possible to define your own roles for project groups alongside the existing roles for learning groups – Electrician, City Guide, Chef/Cook, Moderator – whatever a project idea needs to be realized.
For this development, we received funding from the Dutch NLnet Foundation.
The first step has already been implemented: Roles can now be configured for one’s own initiatives.
- Here you will find a guide titled “How Openki’s Roles Work
- Find the technical documentation here
- More information about the roles further development is available here
We will soon pilot and refine these new features with around 25 sociocultural partners in the city of Zurich. More details on this will follow shortly, and you can get a small preview on the Labör website.
