From the very beginning, the idea behind Openki has been that people can use Openki not only to organize courses and workshops, but all kinds of projects together.

And now, this is finally becoming a reality: Since the beginning of this year, our partner Labör has been creating all kinds of different groups on Openki.net: a language café, an open writing workshop, a community garden, a clothes swap – and with these new types of groups come all kinds of different tasks:

Who moderates? Who takes care of the food? Who keeps an eye on the time? Who documents the meeting? Who looks after the plants? And who simply steps in spontaneously to take on whatever task is needed at the moment?

Until now, roles in Openki were clearly predefined. In a course, for example, you could sign up as a “Mentor” or “Host”. Since yesterday, groups can now define for themselves which tasks and responsibilities are needed for their project.

For example, a group can define the roles of “Driver” and “Curator”, and people interested in taking on these roles can sign up. This not only makes it visible who is involved, but also what each person would like to contribute to a group.

With this, Openki is becoming a little more like what we mean by “self-organisation”: a tool that allows people not only to find events, but also to organize and create something together.

Surely, one or two roles will soon emerge that we hadn’t even thought of during development. We’re excited to see what happens!
